Trnava University (TU) is one of the oldest universities in Slovakia. It was founded in 1635 by Cardinal Péter Pázmány and originally had four faculties. In 1777, the university was relocated to Buda.
On March 25, 1992, the Slovak government re-established Trnava University, and it was officially reopened on July 1, 1992. The St. Andrew’s Pedagogical Institute in Ružomberok became part of TU.
